Does the StepWatch™ 3 software require any special access to my computer for installation?

For the software, usually not. The StepWatch™ software is a standalone executable, meaning it does not need to be “installed”. Simply copy the software to the computer and open it. No installation is needed.

The StepWatch™ dock driver may need administrative permissions to install, depending on your computer permissions. Check out the installation guide included with the StepWatch™ dock and consult your IT personnel or contact modus technical support for assistance.

I'm using an older version of the StepWatch™ 3 software. I would like to try a newer version without disturbing my work. Is this possible?

Yes. All released versions of the StepWatch™ software are fully compatible with the StepWatch™ 3 Activity Monitor, StepWatch™ 3 dock, and files generated from any version of the StepWatch™ software.

You may use two versions of the StepWatch™ software on the same computer too, but make sure you do not have more than one version of StepWatch™ software open at the same time!

The StepWatch™ 3 software reports my dock is not connected. Help!

On Windows, if the software displays a message that the dock was not found perform the following: Click the message window to dismiss it. Choose “Preferences” from the Tools menu and then click on the “Communications” tab. Click the “Set to Default Values” button, followed by pulling down the “Connect to StepWatch dock via” menu and selecting the entry for “StepWatch Dock”. Then click the “Done” button. The green light on the StepWatch™ dock should now be illuminated.

On OS X, if the software displays a message that the dock was not found perform the following: Click the message window to dismiss it. Choose “Preferences” from the StepWatch menu and then click on the “Communications” tab. Click the “Set to Default Values” button, followed by pulling down the “Connect to StepWatch dock via” menu and selecting the entry for “usbserial-NNNNNN“. Then click the “Done” button. The green light on the StepWatchTM dock should now be illuminated.
